I was having a quick go this afternoon, made a basic track and was adding overdubs, but one thing eludes me, I hope Andrew can help. I'll pick them up when I go to England so I won't actually be able to have a go with them for a couple of weeks. Now we'll see how well their delivery service can follow the instructions I've left.

I just wanted to report on a good experience of customer service with them - it's such a contrast with the typical customer service you get in Belgium, where most suppliers recently have been totally ignoring me even when I want to pay them to do something for me! So a thumbs up for Guitarguitar. Then this afternoon he emailed me again to say that they actually received a few in stock today, so to cut a long story short I've ordered one of them, together with a Shure SM57 which he recommended rather than a condenser mike for recording the guitar (I can always buy a condenser mike later on if I'm dissatisfied with the quality of vocal recordings). He was very helpful and gave me some pointers on everything I asked, checking with his colleagues for anything he didn't know. However, I received an email from one of their customer service guys this morning asking me if I had any questions, and so I asked him about the box, and also about the microphone. Guitarguitar had a box on their page inviting you to sign up to be notified when it was in stock, so I stuck my email address in there, not expecting to hear anything for a month or more.

Anderton's quoted June 30th for when they expect them in stock. I looked for the Alesis Core 2 today on various websites. I'm still leaning towards a simple USB interface rather than an all-in-one solution like Andrew's Zoom R8 because I think I'd rather do all of the editing on the PC. There's a tempting package called the Focusrite Scarlett Studio Bundle which includes the Scarlett 2i2 interface, a mike and a pair of headphones for £199, but I read that the microphone isn't quite top notch (and it doesn't include a pop filter) so maybe I'd be better getting a separate microphone.

I had selected the new Alesis Core 2 as my box of choice but according to Anderton's that won't be available until June. I don't know which component is introducing the noise I'd guess the microphone but it really does seem excessive for any but the most rubbishy microphone, and it isn't that bad.Īnyway, back to the original plan of buying a recording box and a decent microphone. The mike itself cost me about €30 a few years ago, it's connected to my laptop via a USB - XLR adapter that I bought recently (and tried out for the first time last night). I'm OK for mike placement as I have a stand.
